OoooH.

Oh,

The depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!

That brief two-lettered word, oh, can communicate so many different things. Consider some nuances just by adding a partner word.

Oh, really?

Oh, no!

Oh, yeah?

Oh, my.

Oh, oh.

Then, there’s the single word, oh, standing solitary as it does at the head of the poem in Romans 11:33-36.

Oh.

Oh, the depth.

Oh, the depth of the riches…

We say oh when words are inadequate to expresses awe, wonder or a tinge of terror. Oh escapes our lips when we see a fiery sunset or lose our balance. A whispered oh floats out of our mouth when a tiny hand curls around our finger.

These oh moments arrest us and transport us to a deeper and higher experience than mundane awareness. Pause and think of an oh moment in your life.

When did it happen?

Where were you?

What happened?

What moved you?

Does the oh tickle your throat again, as you remember?

Here’s the whole poem which begins with an oh. Pause from your busy day and marvel or take heart from the volume of these thoughts.

Oh,

The depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!

How unsearchable are His judgements and How inscrutable His ways!

For who has known the Mind of The Lord, or

Who has been His Counselor?

Who has given a gift to Him  that he might be repaid?

For from Him and

Through Him and

To Him are

All things.

To Him be Glory Forever

Amen

  1. Ahh love this Suzy and great reminder! I love that portion of Scripture. Usually it’s a sunset (like you pictured) that will grab me for those Oh! moments.
